Night Heron

The Yellow-crowned Night Heron is primarily nocturnal, as are many crabs, which are one of their favorite foods. They are just a couple examples of the many animals that are active at night. In fact, this bird is also known as the Crabier or Crab-eater.

Many nocturnal species are unfamiliar to most people because they spend their days hiding. Between day and night, the animals active on St. Martin change almost completely. It is one of the repeating cycles that makes wildlife on this island so fascinating, and you can learn more about it at my Wildlife Beats: The Rhythms of Nature on St. Martin workshop at this year’s St. Martin Book Fair.

This year’s book fair is from May 30th to June 1st with events at several locations around the island. My workshop will be on Saturday, June 1st at 11am at University of St. Martin on Pond Island. All of the St. Martin Book Fair events are free and open to the public. Find out more at https://www.facebook.com/stmartin.bookfair
