Sea Turtle Nesting Season

If you are at the beach in the morning and see something that looks like tank tracks coming up from the sea, they’re probably sea turtle tracks. Three species of sea turtle nest on St. Martin, the hawksbill (pictured), the leatherback and the green turtle. They typically nest between April and November on beaches all over the island.

If you want to learn more about sea turtles and help us understand their nesting patterns on St. Martin, there are programs on both sides of the islands where volunteers can survey a beach weekly for turtle tracks and nests. You will learn how to tell each species from its tracks and have a great reason to visit the beach one morning a week.
