Know Your Anolis

There are four species of Anolis lizard on St. Martin, two native and two introduced. At yesterday’s session of the wildlife education program, we taught local youth to identify them based on photos and tested them in the field. They need to know, because next week we’ll be doing a survey in the field to see how populations of our local species are doing in comparison to one of the invasive species.

How good are you at identifying our resident Anolis lizards? Take this quiz. List the name of the species, in order, in in a comment on this post (the species are A. gingivinus, A. pogus, A. cristatellus and A. sagrei). Bonus points for saying if it is male/female and adult/immature. If you need to, download the wildlife book for free as a reference: http://www.sxmwildlife.com/publications/wildlife-of-st-martin-2nd-edition/

The winner will get a copy of the book, which I can send to you or donate to a school/library on your behalf. Good luck!
