Anguilla Bank Anole

The Anguilla Bank anole is found throughout the Anguilla Bank: Anguilla, St. Martin, St. Barts and most of the smaller islets in the area. Why? Because during the last ice age, all these islands were connected. During the height of the last glacial period, about 12,000 years ago, the sea level was about 120 meters lower than it is today. The islands of the Anguilla Bank share a submarine foundation that is shallow enough to be above water during ice ages. (An island bank is, in fact, a group of islands that share a submarine foundation.)

So, the animals of St. Martin, St. Barths and Anguilla are very similar because not too long ago they all lived on the same really big island. Even though Saba is pretty close, it is on it’s own island bank and the reptiles there are mostly different than the ones found here.
