You probably know that many of the birds passing through St. Martin right now, or just arriving for the winter, are coming from North America. Did you know that, in some cases, you can find out exactly where they came from? If you look closely at these photos, you can see that each of these birds is wearing a band or flag on its leg. Typically, they have been banded in their breeding grounds or on their migratory route in the US. If you see a banded bird and can read the code on its flag or note the color and placement of the rings on its legs (as well as the species, of course), you can report your sighting at http://report.bandedbirds.org and they can usually tell you exactly when and where the bird was banded.
